Career Awareness Initiative

The soft skill for the month of April is Writing Skills

Writing is the primary basis upon which your work, your learning, and your intellect will be judged—in college, in the workplace, and in the community.  Communication skills, including writing, are one of the most important transferable skills that workers possess. Obviously good writing skills are important when your job involves writing, be it as a journalist, paralegal or public relations professional.  However, more professions require good writing skills than those traditionally associated with writing. Any time a profession requires written communication, writing skills become important and can help you come across as more credible, or more capable, than a colleague who frequently has typos and grammatical errors.

Having a solid command of the written word can help set you apart from ‘the competition!’  This is evident  with the interview process (cover letter, resume, an essay you may have to write in an interview etc.).

During the month of April, please introduce, focus on, bring awareness to & reinforce the importance of writing skills in your classroom.
